Holiday Greetings to all members of the Naples Opera Society and our friends in opera! 2010 was a great year for us! We enjoyed several exciting programs together; toured to the Florida Grand Opera for a great season, and supported our own opera productions in Collier County. Certainly, the movie theatres love the NOS members because I have heard so many positive comments about every opera show at the theatres. You are truly enjoying the HD broacasts. Still, I say “live” opera can’t be beat!
One of my favorite moments of the year was our ability to make a strong donation to the Naples Music Club for their scholarship program. They gave two scholarships named for the Naples Opera Society. On December 5th, Patty Fairweather, our Vice President and I joined Jeannette Boucher for a the Music Club’s holiday gathering to hear Joanne Nordilus, our young scholarship winner, sing. She performed “Go, Tell it on the Mountain”, and her lively personality and lovely voice was a hit!
Did you read that the Naples Music Club and Opera Naples are Stars in the Arts for this year? Congratulations to them with a heartfelt Bravissimo! from the Naples Opera Society. Try to attend the event held by the United Arts Council of Collier County early in the year.
We are not having a Christmas program this year. There are so many opportunities for concerts during the season, please take advantage of attending one.
On January 11, the FGCU Vocalists will bring their Opera Gala to the Norris Center. More details to follow. I attended the program at the new recital hall at the FGCU campus, and it was wonderful. The singers and the music school are making outstanding progress. You will not want to miss this program.
Have a special and meaningful Holiday!
